Soccer for 20 hours straight!

On May 30 and 31 the Seahorses had a very exciting Futsal Marathon Tournament from 4 PM Friday until Saturday noon. A lot of great soccer was played as 26 teams participated in 5 different Tournaments. Many members of the PDL team helped run the tournament by refereeing, doing some of the administration of the tournament, and sharing a bit of their life story.

Congratulations to the winners in the various categories:

U18- Red Lions from Compton
Church-Gerazim from Chino
Open 1-Mafia from Orange County
Open 2-Has Beens from Orange County
 U 13-Gerazim from Chino

It was a big encouragement to see the various ministry partnerships come together and play and fellowship. It was also great to see the PDL players learn Sports Ministry as they helped administer the tournament.   A tournament like this really reinforces the powerful tool that soccer is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ by what one says, by what one does and by how one plays. The
Seahorse thank all those who came out and participated!!!

Lemon Street Park Outreach Event A Success
May 16, 2008

On May 16th the Seahorses were a part of a big outreach event at Lemon Street Park. The Seahorses have been working for close to two years with the children at this park  in a soccer program. Thank you to those who were praying for the Lemon Street Park Outreach last Friday. The LORD blessed richly as His Spirit was evident as the community and 2 churches (one a church plant that meets at the adjacent school) came together to glorify Him with soccer, fellowship and food.  The Lemon Street Park team played a game with the Green Tigers (led by Fellow Sports Minister Abraham Kim. Diego, one of our players, shared  after the game; we then ate. Abraham and his church had arranged for all the food and drinks. Then the adults played. Some 200 people participated!!! As an immediate outcome two of the boys went to the church plant the next day!!!!

The Day of Champions is a Big Success
March 29, 2008 - Azusa Pacific University

The Heart of the Champion was the theme for the 6th Annual Day of Champions held in Azusa on March 29th, 2008. Under the capable leadership of Carrie Seawright director of the VIVA AZUSA, over 100 children participated in this outreach.  Carrrie organized the event with numerous volunteers providing lunch, an incredible fun filled environment and prizes for all the children.

The Seahorses count in an honor to come along para-church programs like this and serve the community through soccer.

After getting organized the children were divided into three gourps where they played either Steal the Bacon, World Cup, Shooter-Keeper (Line Soccer) under the guidance of Seahorses Coach Chris (Rus); Captain Planet (Evan Cox) and Rumpelskillskin (Todd Elkins).  The coaches also shared three characters essential for having a Champion’s Heart: Hard work, Enthusiasm andTenacity.  Before the handing out of the awards at the end, Coach Pablo (Shedd) spoke to the children and their families about the Ultimate Champion-Jesus Christ!

A huge thank you goes out to all who paticipated in this great day of fun with the challenge of seeking after having a Champion’s Heart.
